Unmissable place when being in this unique area. The museum gives a pictoresque overview on the history of the swamp land region in the German Dutch region of bourtanger Moor. It tells a lot about the urbanization of zhe region and the people who live here. It shows a lot of unique equipment to need to make life possible over many hundred years.
Bottomline, clear recommendation!

The Moormuseum is a really impressive museum. The in-door exhibition is showing the evolution of bogs and peats; the cultivation the peatland; the machineries used for excavating peat. The outdoor area is located within the peatland exhibiting the typical flora and fauna.
I should not forget the Museum-Cafe where you can energize.

Fantastic museum exploring the history of the area, with a particular focus on the development of farming and peat harvesting. Some excellent displays of equipment, a great film, and plenty of information. Everything is in German and Dutch, and while I would have welcomed an English translation, Google Lens worked just fine. Some things to do for children as well, and plenty of outdoor areas to wander through as well. Family admission is only 16€, and we spent several hours there. Highly recommended if you're in the area.

As a peat lover I have visited some peat museums. Emsland Moormuseum is one of the most extensive museums to learn about the world and history of peat in Northern Europe. With nice seasonable exhibitions. And one of the very few places where you can get peat soap 😉

Immerse yourself in the world decades ago when people lived off the land and gathered peat. Lots to see, explained vividly with all tools and videos of that age. Kids like it too!

Really funny film at the beginning and otherwise also very interesting. I can only recommend going there. It isn't expensive either and one can see the original state of the entire region and also how such difficult terrain was cultivated.
